The Metropolitan Police Service has chosen Square One to produce The Job, its internal publication for police officers and staff.

This is the first change to The Job’s publishing agency for over 10 years, and it also marks a change in strategy for the magazine. Research has shown that more and more Met staff are turning to the service’s Intranet for their internal news, so Square One began working on a plan for the magazine to complement and extend this digital news service.

To that end, The Job has shifted from being a fortnightly newspaper to a monthly magazine. All the relevant issues are being explored in more depth: the new remit means more room for debate, a broader sample of opinion and deeper analysis.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesperson said: “It was important that we chose an agency that understands the Met’s unique challenges and that shared our vision for the future of The Job. Square One combined this with strong publishing expertise and experience in the public sector.”

Square One commercial director, Sean King, said: “The Job is a superb addition to our public sector portfolio and we look forward to developing another innovative publication. As a London agency with a passion for the capital, we are delighted to be playing a role supporting the Met in their policing of London.”

The first issue of the newly launched magazine is to be published in April 2006.
