Square One is working closely with the Home Office to produce a cutting-edge magazine for frontline police officers and staff.

The Sharp End, the first issue of which launches this month, is a highly innovative publication that was produced following extensive research.

The research showed that the best way to engage officers and police staff was through a consumer-style magazine and the Home Office sees The Sharp End as exactly that Ð an excellent way to keep frontline staff in touch with new developments within the police service.

Square One commercial director, Sean King, said: "The Sharp End is unquestionably one of the most significant magazine launches from any Government department in recent years."

Creating the magazine was an exciting challenge for Square One. The magazine's editorial approach, combined with first-class journalism, and a cutting-edge design, means that, whilst remaining credible to its target audience, The Sharp End is unlike any other Government magazine published today.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "The Sharp End is a publication that will inform and motivate. It will focus on real issues faced by officers every day, and we would like it to become a must-read publication for rank-and-file officers and frontline police staff."

The 36-page magazine will be published 10 times a year and will present developments in police reform, focus on topical issues and encourage regular contributions.

The magazine represents the best elements of a tabloid newspaper, combined with the clear and accessible style of a Sunday supplement, whilst including the punch of a celebrity magazine.

Former Rare Publishing editorial director, Steve McGrath, who edits The Sharp End, said: "I believe this ground-breaking magazine can truly cut through a crowded market and get under the skin of frontline police."
