Simon Chappell resigns from John Brown Citrus Publishing to join Square One Group

Simon Chappell has resigned as President of John Brown Publishing Inc, John Brown Citrus' international operation, and joined Square One Group as a Director from 1 December. Square One is a successful independent publishing agency that has won a number of high profile clients this year including Direct Line and Thames Water. The agency's other key clients include Alliance Unichem PLC and Gala Group. The move substantially strengthens Square One's management team with Chappell's marketing and customer publishing expertise supplementing founding Directors Sean King and Peter Dean's publishing background.

Under Chappell's management, John Brown Publishing Inc has expanded aggressively in the US with wins such as Bloomingdales, Nestlé and the US Military magazine Drill. Previously, Chappell was Managing Director of Citrus Publishing, and was instrumental in the company's merger with John Brown Publishing in April 2002. Prior to joining forces with JBCP, Chappell had created a completely new and innovative market position for Citrus leading to a sustained period of successful growth.

He says, "Without question, recent consolidation in the customer publishing sector has created a gap in the market for a smaller, more flexible publishing agency that focuses on delivering high quality, value for money publishing solutions. Large agencies are not always affordable and their size can make it difficult for them to deliver consistent personal service. I've been familiar with Square One Group for some time and have been impressed with the company's approach. I'm delighted to become part of the team to develop the business into a new generation agency."

Sean King, co-founder and Commercial Director adds, "Simon's track record of success makes him an ideal addition to the team here. With wins such as Direct Line we have already demonstrated that with a level playing field we can compete with and beat the best. Simon will focus on developing our offer, ensuring a greater emphasis on how clients can maximise the value of their publications. We believe we have the opportunity to be a top 5 player in the contract publishing sector within the next five years."
